Actually the temps were not bad on Friday evening, humidity was down and a slight breeze made the turnout for the event successful. We welcomed nine new members to their first event (check out the member’s photo’s tab to see the latest) and a car count of over thirty-five.
We had a really good mix of members from all areas of the club, including our NNE group of Lufkin. I would like to thank everyone for checking in at the information table, grabbing the event flyers, and supporting the club by picking up the, stickers, shirts, and hats.
Up next is C&C on Sept 4th, followed by a member favorite, the September 18th Galveston Cruise hosted by our Southside Area Coordinators. Please RSVP early to help us with the planning.
What a great turnout for our 8th Mod Meet, our first one in the evening. It was a hot day and we are thankful that our host, Gray Wagner member/owner of Paint Protection of Texas provided a fantastic place for us to work. Gray also supplied an awesome food from Pappas BBQ and members brought pizza, chips, and drinks.
Around 4:40pm, 20 minutes before the event starts, I get a call from Daniel, Cibalo, who was stuck in Conroe. Johnny Bee and I knew we had to go provide assistance to our fellow member. We left the event prep in the able hands of Jerry, Gr8srt, and headed to Conroe. Watch the videos below for a little taste of what we had to do. Cibalo really did all the work... we just provided a way to get the bolt he needed.
That was the start of a full day of members helping members. Everyone jumped in to help out other members with their mods. Then, as is usually the case, students became teachers.
Just when we thought the meet was over at 9pm, there was one Plum Crazy that just didn't want to go home. A group of us stayed, backtracked, troubleshot, and finally got the car in working condition. The member lived out in Katy so Johnny Bee and I caravaned with him until we had to exit. I got a text message shortly thereafter that the member arrived home safely.
Thanks to the Northside Area Coordinators for pulling together and organizing a great event. Our next big event is the Galveston Cruise. Make plans now to join us.
The cars and members seemed to be equally hot at this event; SCLX showed up to the event with a strong car count of 60 with a very good representation from all the areas. I did not hear the official attendance count for Coffee and Cars, but it appeared to have all parking lots full, in and around the area.
My favorite comments from the event:
1. Two (Non-SCLX) attendees: We are now entering the muscle car section (as they walked by our area). 2. The Starbucks line is out the door and all the way down the sidewalk. 3. I can’t believe I wore the same dress at the last event. 4. Freebird towels are a necessity today.
Special thanks to the new members who came out, the many members who participate each and every event, and the Area Coordinators who help to get everyone to the events safely.
Next up – August 14th Mod Meet – Make Your Plans to Attend
Today's event was the official launch of American Wheel and Tire as a Club Partner to SCLX members. The day started out perfectly with the help of Raygun, VP-Events, and the rest of the volunteers who helped with setup. The parking team did a smooth job helping people get in and out of the lot. What started out as one canopy for our information table quickly turned into three and members were able to stay in the shade and visit with one another.
American Wheel and Tire were super host as they provided us with plenty of wheels to look at, information about the products, and a delicious BBQ lunch. The prez is working out final pricing details with AWT owner Mike Gust and we'll get those details to you as we know you are eager to do some upgrades.
On a personal note, after the event I stayed around to have my tired balanced that I had purchased from AWT last year. The staff is super careful with your car, wheels, and tires. They do that "little extra" that separates them from most other shops in town. My tires looked good, about 85% or better tread life. When they were balancing one tech noticed a spot on the inside of one tire. A closer inspection showed a defect in the bead - so they replaced it. When looking at the other rear, he noticed the same problem and replaced it. I heard numerous times from the techs, "it will probably be okay, but why take a chance". There was no charge to me for any of this.
My famous saying is, "members make the club". Thank you for coming out, spending a hot day with your fellow members, and making this a great club.
This event marked the "reintroduction" of the Information Table. It quickly became known by all as the place to go to ask questions, pick up event flyers/tag cards, and sign up for a member photo. At the information table members, new and old, also got their name tags to help everyone put a face with a name. It became quite apparent to all how nice it was to call each other by their names instead of the generic "hey, how you doing, great to see you." First-timers jumped right into the mix and met fellow members.
As usual with the Central City Wide meet, there were many first timers who came out to see what SCLX is all about. We also had a surprise appearance by Red Bull and they passed out product to all who wanted some. From the photos you can see Rob really enjoyed it.
If you haven't been to an event in a while, this event is a great one to come to. It's very informal, you can grab dinner before the event, and we have a great time. It is always great to everyone. Thank you for respecting the area with your adhearance to our event guidelines by keeping radios and engine noise down. This ensures we are able to meet at this location again in the future.
Thank you to all the members who made it out to Raising Canes tonight. What a good turn out. We had 30 awesome looking cars and excitement filled the parking lot. Inside the chicken coop, the Canes staff said it was the most people they had in the store, ever!
A big welcome to the five first-time attendees and to those of you who haven't been able to make an event in a while. We also had three members of the Leadership Team and two Associate Area Coordinators make it to this impromptu event. You can't go wrong when you combine great food and Mopar Maniacs!
With rain for most of Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, it didn't look good for the Coffee and Cars event on July 3. I woke up at 6am on Saturday morning and what did I see in the sky.... it was the sun! Admittedly, I had little faith that the rain would stop so I had not planned to attend the C&C. I quickly got ready, dirty car and all, and headed to the Westside Caravan spot. Ken and Chuck were there waiting when I arrived and Freebird showed up a couple minutes later.
We headed to Uptown Park where another 15 members joined us. Attendance for the entire event was down due to the previous days weather. No matter the conditions, it was great to see my fellow members and some great cars. For those of you who were not able to make it to C&C.... make plans to attend the Meet & Eat, Friday July 9, at Raising Canes. We wanted to give everyone a chance to get together because of last week's weather.
