Today's event was the official launch of American Wheel and Tire as a Club Partner to SCLX members. The day started out perfectly with the help of Raygun, VP-Events, and the rest of the volunteers who helped with setup. The parking team did a smooth job helping people get in and out of the lot. What started out as one canopy for our information table quickly turned into three and members were able to stay in the shade and visit with one another.
American Wheel and Tire were super host as they provided us with plenty of wheels to look at, information about the products, and a delicious BBQ lunch. The prez is working out final pricing details with AWT owner Mike Gust and we'll get those details to you as we know you are eager to do some upgrades.
On a personal note, after the event I stayed around to have my tired balanced that I had purchased from AWT last year. The staff is super careful with your car, wheels, and tires. They do that "little extra" that separates them from most other shops in town. My tires looked good, about 85% or better tread life. When they were balancing one tech noticed a spot on the inside of one tire. A closer inspection showed a defect in the bead - so they replaced it. When looking at the other rear, he noticed the same problem and replaced it. I heard numerous times from the techs, "it will probably be okay, but why take a chance". There was no charge to me for any of this.
My famous saying is, "members make the club". Thank you for coming out, spending a hot day with your fellow members, and making this a great club.
This event marked the "reintroduction" of the Information Table. It quickly became known by all as the place to go to ask questions, pick up event flyers/tag cards, and sign up for a member photo. At the information table members, new and old, also got their name tags to help everyone put a face with a name. It became quite apparent to all how nice it was to call each other by their names instead of the generic "hey, how you doing, great to see you." First-timers jumped right into the mix and met fellow members.
As usual with the Central City Wide meet, there were many first timers who came out to see what SCLX is all about. We also had a surprise appearance by Red Bull and they passed out product to all who wanted some. From the photos you can see Rob really enjoyed it.
If you haven't been to an event in a while, this event is a great one to come to. It's very informal, you can grab dinner before the event, and we have a great time. It is always great to everyone. Thank you for respecting the area with your adhearance to our event guidelines by keeping radios and engine noise down. This ensures we are able to meet at this location again in the future.
Thank you to all the members who made it out to Raising Canes tonight. What a good turn out. We had 30 awesome looking cars and excitement filled the parking lot. Inside the chicken coop, the Canes staff said it was the most people they had in the store, ever!
A big welcome to the five first-time attendees and to those of you who haven't been able to make an event in a while. We also had three members of the Leadership Team and two Associate Area Coordinators make it to this impromptu event. You can't go wrong when you combine great food and Mopar Maniacs!
With rain for most of Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, it didn't look good for the Coffee and Cars event on July 3. I woke up at 6am on Saturday morning and what did I see in the sky.... it was the sun! Admittedly, I had little faith that the rain would stop so I had not planned to attend the C&C. I quickly got ready, dirty car and all, and headed to the Westside Caravan spot. Ken and Chuck were there waiting when I arrived and Freebird showed up a couple minutes later.
We headed to Uptown Park where another 15 members joined us. Attendance for the entire event was down due to the previous days weather. No matter the conditions, it was great to see my fellow members and some great cars. For those of you who were not able to make it to C&C.... make plans to attend the Meet & Eat, Friday July 9, at Raising Canes. We wanted to give everyone a chance to get together because of last week's weather.
The perfect SCLX weekend all started with the central meet and greet at Target. All the leadership team, the majority of the Area coordinators, and yes, a large entourage of members including a number of new members and some that have not been out for awhile. All the rides were in grand fashion, as the Houston weather gets a tab bit warm in the summer, it sure makes it a little easier to keep our rides looking like new. Seen a number of new and exciting mods - all that can be said is we have some very creative members. Car count was in excess of 40, I actually heard someone say they counted 50 cars. Thank you to all came out to enjoy an incredible evening of SCLX friends, family, and cars.
Saturday – San Jacinto Big Event Picnic
6/19/2010
Saturday's big event started with caravans gathering up and making a short trip out to the Battleship Texas site at the San Jacinto Park for a picnic lunch followed by a tour of an incredible piece of History. Once everyone completed the tour, we loaded up and made a short trip to the other side of the park to visit the San Jacinto Monument. The cars were lined up for a few photos followed by a trip inside the monument to experience a part of Texas history. BTW - The monument is 570 foot tall and many of us took the elevator up to the viewing deck (489 feet) to get a view of the area. A total of 26 cars, around 50 members and family attended the event.
Hope everyone has a safe summer, and will see you at the upcoming July events.

"The members make the club; every event is full of fun and a great chance to enjoy conversation and our cars."
What a nice evening to celebrate SCLX's 3rd Birthday. The weather cooperated and the turnout was great. We were welcomed by the crew of Classic's pizza and the pizza feast was in full swing. Thanks to all our great members for coming out to the BDay Bash. We even had the pleasure of seeing some of the founding members from 2007.
As you can see from the pics, everyone had a fun time hanging out seeing old and new members. We even recruited a couple of new members as they saw our cars passing by.
This past weekend marks a milestone in SCLX - three tremendous years for this club. I am so thankful for the friendships that have come along the way.
Finally, a special thanks to our membership for the nice surprise recognizing the founding fathers. The plaques were so special to us.
SCLX turns 3 years old this month. Back in Jan. 07 a few of us on the forums first started talking about formally starting an LX car club in Houston. Several more months pass by and still no SCLX off the ground yet.
Then in May of 2007, 6 Houston area LX owners drove down to Galveston for our first "unofficial" (no club or club name yet for Houston Club) meet and greet. There would have been 7 LX's in attendnace but JohnnyB (SRTBEE) was out of town.
We had lunch at Gaido's on the seawall and as a group we started hatching ideas for the Houston Area LX Club. We started thinking up names for the club, Goals for the Club, President, VP, Website, etc.
When JohnnyB got back in town we all met the following weekend at my house and formally launched SpaceCity LX (Houston Area Modern Mopar Owners) and named JohnnyB as President. We worked on the club logo that night that is still the club logo today. The car club has really grown over the past 3 years and the club would not be what it is today without you the members making it the top tier car club that is SCLX.
Thanks again for all the tireless work that JohnnyB and Rob have done as your Pres. and VP. and to see how great a club SCLX has become.
Here is a link to the thread from the very first "unofficial" SCLX meet and greet pictures, in Galveston, with the first 6 LX's from Houston 5/19/2007.
