Our first Spring meet and greet and the weather couldn't have been better. Mission Control (Info Table, New Member Welcome, Club Store) was in full operational condition with the help of the SCLX Event Rig. We introduced new name badges and took another 14 new member photos using our check-in system.
It was a full night of Mopars as over 100 cars showed up with owners and families. Some cars were stock, some were custom, all are welcome. As we always say, it doesn't matter what your car looks like... the cars bring us together - the members set us apart.
Our next event will be April 7th Space City Cruisers Spring Extravaganza car show, check the EVENTS page or our club forum for all the details.
After a Coffee and Cars rainout, and a Central Meet and Greet rainout, the family was itching to get together. The Mega Mod Meet was going to happen, rain or shine, because this time our meet was at Armadillo Indoor Marketplace. Our first mod meet back in 2007 took place here and there is no better venue for SCLX to gather and showcase members helping members.
We debuted our new Mission Control comprised of our Info Table, New Member Welcome Team, and Club Store. If you needed your club picture taken you were part of our beta signup program. The new member checked and our photog team was updated on their iPad. The member was free to walk around the facility without having to wait for their picture to be taken.
Johnny Bee gave an update on club business and introduced Dr. Al who shared what SCLX means to him and his wife Maddy and why they stepped up to pay for Phase 1 of the Event Rig in honor of their daughter Katherine, aka Little Bird.
Always innovating to help the members we introduced our "clinics" which were very well received. Lots of information was shared and follow up questions are being posted in the SCLX Forum.
Mod Meet #9 is in the books so it's time to start thinking about the next one. If you missed it please take a look at the pictures and we hope to see you at the next event.
Good weather, great cars, and the greatest people made for an awesome day in Luling. In what's become a January tradition we met up with Alamo City LX Club and Capital City Modern Mopar for a day of food and fun. Luling's City Market is famous for their BBQ and it's a trip back in time when you step inside the storefront. After a great meal we all gathered back outside to visit with members we don't get to see every day... our friends from San Antonio and Austin. No trip to Luling is complete without a stop at Bucee's before heading back east on I-10. If you didn't get to make it we hope you join us soon at another SCLX event.
Every 3rd Friday we meet at the Target of Taylor street for what we call the Central Meet and Greet. This location was specifically chosen for it's proximity to downtown Houston. From outside it looks like we are just a bunch of car nuts gathering in a parking lot. If you've ever attend, you know, it's much more than that… it's a family reunion.
This event was extra special as it was the debut of Phase 1 of the SCLX Event Rig. What a difference it's already made in the execution of club events. Both members and staff were excited to put this piece of equipment into use.
The Central Meet and Greet is the perfect first-time even for newbies and members who have not made it to an event before. We see a large amount of new members and are always thankful for anyone who takes time out of their schedules to come out. This organization was founded to help connect owners with other owners. If you are reading this and have NEVER been to a club event... make plans to come out soon.
Houston Coffee and Cars continues to be a favorite among the members. We had to make a couple adjustments in our parking and Info Table layout to accomodate some requests from retailers. Johnny Bee and Baylor Stan went around with one oh the club's HD Flip Cameras and interviewed some different members for our Street Talk video segments.
We concluded our "month of giving" with SCLX Gives Back event #3. At our monthly Central Meet & Greet members came out with their food donations. Our focus for this last event of 2011 was to collect items to give to the Houston Food Bank. Saturday morning Johnny Bee, Chef Matt, Freebird, Darth Charger, Stealth, and Crimson Ghoul headed out to drop off the donation at the main warehouse. Things sure changed from 2010 when SCLX volunteered at the food bank. With a new location and new atmosphere the food bank has the same focus... Filling Pantries, Filling Lives. SCLX is a small part of what HFB does and we look forward to increasing our participation in 2012.
Today we had the honor of joining our Modern Mopar brothers and sisters in the Alamo City LX Club at their gives back event. We joined ACLX members at the Bexar County Sheriff Office Magic of Christmas Toy Wrap. Events like this put us "in touch" with what giving back is all about. We picked out a toy, picked out a name of a needy child, and wrapped their gift. Every toy that was wrapped today was wrapped with a child in mind. Props go out to Levi (the prez of ACLX), the staff, members, and the BCSO for all the work that goes into an event like this. Thank you for allowing us to be part of the day.
For the 2011, SCLX Gives Back is three separate events. We call it Drop // Wrap // Restock.
The first event was our 5th Annual Toy Drive. This year we participated in the Houston Coffee and Cars Toy Drive benefitting MD Anderson Cancer Center and several other worhty charities. SCLXers arrvied before sunrise to secure Mopar Corner. The turnout was tremendous and we know many kids will benefit from the generosity members showed. If you missed this opportunity it's never too late to make a toy donation to a worthy organization. Find one in your area and make a child smile.
There are two more charity opportunities in this year's SCLX Gives Back campagin. Next Saturday (12/10) we are cruising to San Antonio to partner with Alamo City LX and wrap toys collected in the Bexar County Sheriff Toy Drive. The following Friday (12/16) we are collecting food for the Houston Food Bank and will caravan to drop it off the next day. We hope you can make some time to join us this month.
We had a great turnout at our Dyno/Show Day. Thank you to ARD for accomodating us. We had a couple of the new 2012 392 SRT cars out, plenty of stock cars, and a few that with serious performance modifications. Members got to speak with other members, find out what "go" modifications they've done, and learn, learn, learn.
Thank you to all the enthusiasts and MOPAR fans who attended Lone Star Mopar Fest this past weekend. There were over 250 cars that showed up to participate in a day of show and go. Billed as "where appearance and peformance converge", LSMF2011 lived up to those expectations. Over 100 vehicles participated in the track events and every vehicle participated in the show-n-shine.
Another thank you goes out to the staff of Lonestar Motorsports Park and Hennessey Performance for allowing us to take over their facility. We'd like to share a quote from John Hennessey to SCLX Prez, Johnny Bee:
JohnnyBee,
You and your team have been the most passionate, pleasant and professional group of car enthusiasts that I have ever worked with in the past 20 years. It was an honor to hang out with you guys this past Saturday. Expect to see 50-100% growth on your event over the next several years.
Looking forward to doing it again in 2012!
Highest Regards,
John Hennessey
It means a lot to SCLX, the LSMF planning team, and all the volunteers to receive high compliments from attendees and auto professionals like John. We've gotten feedback from attendees, our team leaders, and volunteers and look forward to raising the bar for 2012.
